2022 has been another big year for Virtusales and BiblioSuite. After 22 years supplying software to world-leading publishers, we've seen a lot of change. From welcoming new customers, unveiling the latest features and updates, and increasing the ways BiblioSuite can be there for your teams and businesses, these past 12 months have been no different.
It hasn't been without its challenges for our customers, as well as for us at Virtusales and the industry at large. From adjusting to the realities of remote and hybrid teams, to helping colleagues be more productive at work with the same number of hours in a week, we've been acutely aware of the concerns publishers have had this year.
But, as we enter the 2023, we are capturing last year's activity to celebrate our customers progress, successes and user journeys as we continue to work with them to improve their business processes throughout the entire publishing lifecycle. We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and continuing to work with our customers from across the publishing and content landscape.
BiblioSuite rolls out – a year of inclusive updates
Throughout 2022, we completed the biggest-ever, inclusive Biblio upgrade, encompassing all of the modules and solutions available for publishers to select from, and rebranding the award-winning publishing system as BiblioSuite.
The new version was released to all customers as an inclusive upgrade and we have had some great feedback:
"We are very excited to roll out the new
BiblioSuite. I am particularly impressed
that Virtusales have combined the latest,
cutting-edge technology with the rich
functionality that has been developed
over the past 20 years to support the
complexities of publishing.”
“The new user interface is modern and
intuitive, minimizing the need for training
and feedback from users has been
very positive.”
“One of the best parts of the BiblioSuite
is that we are able to roll it out with our
normal upgrades, giving us what is
essentially a new system without the
disruption, drain on resources or cost
of implementing new software.”
Now complete, the rollout of the new BiblioSuite is benefitting our customers in-action. Harnessing cutting-edge technology and personalized dashboards, BiblioSuite provides an all-in-one system that is able to adapt to the growing needs of your team for years to come.
Success stories from our customers
We were extremely pleased to announce that BiblioSuite replaced Firebrand and Klopotek at Sounds True Publishing towards the latter half of this year. The company selected Virtusales’ Bibliographic, Contracts, Rights and Royalties solutions, enabling the team to manage all its products, processes and digital workflows within a single system.
“Biblio will allow us to integrate a number of
disparate technology systems at Sounds True,
so our processes are more aligned, offer a
sense of ease for our team, and allow us to
remain focused on our commitment to our
products, authors, and customers."
– Jaime Schwalb, Associate Publisher,
Sounds True Publishing
In other customer news, graphic novel publisher Mad Cave Studios selected four BiblioSuite solutions to run its publishing operations and support the company's rapid growth.
Zando selected BiblioSuite to manage its growing publishing operations. Integration with Ingram’s eBook distribution service provides Zando with an affordable solution for distribution, publishing operations and royalty calculations.
Icon Books chose Biblio to support its substantial growth. After being acquired by Jonathan Ball Publishers earlier this year, the Icon team needed to find a new way forward to support the significant evolution they have planned.
“We intend to grow substantially in the years
to come and the implementation of Biblio
means that we are positioned as competitively
as all other BiblioSuite users; including
Penguin Random House, Hachette, Macmillan
and Bonnier.”
– Philip Cotterell, CEO, Icon Books
Gottmer Uitgevers Group is our latest customer to join the growing number of publishers including Macmillan Publishers, Harvard University Press, Faber, Usborne, Bonnier, Dorling Kindersley Verlag and Princeton University Press relying on Virtusales to host their BiblioSuite systems.

All things DAM for publishers
BiblioSuite's Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution is different to other, generic DAM systems because everything we do with Biblio is publishing-specific.
When Hachette opted for BiblioSuite's DAM this year, they found it to be a good fit for the publisher:
"We chose BiblioSuite’s DAM because it is
designed for publishers and a good fit for
our business processes. It fits in well with
our existing infrastructure and it’s great
that it’s supported by the Virtusales team."
Biblio's powerful DAM capability brings both your assets and metadata together under a single system. Organizations are able to reduce the number of systems used by their teams – meaning lower licensing fees as well as support and maintenance costs, reduced duplication and rekeying, increased visibility and accuracy of the latest information and files, and improved productivity by optimizing workflows.
Our Paper published this year, Digital Asset Management: The Benefits of an Integrated System, is available to download. It explores the need for better systems to cope with the quantity, complexity and demand for content. Learn how a DAM system that is fully integrated into your systems landscape can boost your publishing organization's productivity.
In-person and online customer events
This year, we are absolutely delighted to meet with our customers in-person, in addition to the online formats we've been offering over the past two years. Most recently, Rodney Elder and the North American team hosted a fantastic customer day with several of our client publishers in New York City this December. The team were on-hand at our “Ask Us Anything” session to provide valuable insights, tips and tricks for making the most of the Biblio system.
Online, we hosted the BiblioU Annual Meeting for over 250 of our customers. World-leading trade, children's, religious, and academic publishers and presses joined us to hear insights into how they can use the BiblioSuite publishing software to better their businesses, network with peers, and learn about the latest features and enhancements available. Thank you to everyone who attended!
We attended a total of 15 in-person industry events in Germany, the UK and the North America including, Frankfurter Buchmesse, the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) Annual Meeting of Members, the STM Annual Conference, IG Digital's Börsenverein Buchtage 2022 (run by Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels e.V.), the Independent Publishers Guild Autumn Conference, The Association Of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) University Press REDUX, the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) Leadership Summit, Bologna Children’s Book Fair, and The London Book Fair. We were also delighted to sponsor and present at a number of these conferences and gatherings.
A fundamental security milestone
Towards the end of the year, we were very proud to have been successfully re-certified for ISO 27001 as part of the three-year renewal cycle.
The Recertification Audit took place over five days and involved the same level of detail as the original certification, and is a fantastic accomplishment for the company. We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone as we continue to deliver the highest standards for security and privacy to our customers largest publishers and leading content providers around the world. World-leading publishers – including three of the big four – can tap into the flexibility and security that they need with BiblioSuite, without compromise. Read more...
