When LSU Press needed to upgrade its existing publishing database management system, it sought an integrated, web-based platform that would enable the press to capture title information securely, track book and author information from acquisition to publication, produce sales and other performance reports, provide estimating, budgeting, and scheduling tools, and allow for growth through expansion of the system in the future.
The main aim was to replace a legacy press-wide database and to enhance internal workflows through improved management of acquisitions, editorial, production, marketing, contracts & rights and digital asset management. A key objective was to streamline and automate data flows for sending title data to its distributor, to its Acumen business management system, and to the press' own website, which is powered by Supadu.
LSU Press chose Virtusales' BiblioLIVE publishing system, which provides:
- Peer review management
- Pre-acquisition estimates
- Production costing and schedules
- Purchase ordering
- Contracts, rights and permission sales
- Third party rights management
- Editorial, bibliographic, and marketing data management
- Unlimited ONIX 2.1 and ONIX 3.0 feeds
- Business intelligence and sales analytics
Why Virtusales' BiblioLIVE
MK Callaway, the Director of LSU Press, notes that,
BiblioLIVE offered everything we were looking for in a database management system. Their experience with other university presses, the regular updates they provide, and the quality of their system were all attractive to us. We’re delighted to work with Virtusales and to implement the BiblioLIVE system.
MK Callaway, Director, Louisiana State University Press
Rodney Elder, VP of Operations at Virtusales, comments, “LSU Press has been considering BiblioLIVE for several years and has seen how the software continually evolves. It is fantastic that we can now start a project with them.”
