2018 AUPresses Annual Meeting
17-19 June 2018
This year's AUP annual meeting will be held in San Francisco, and Virtusales will once again be attending as partner members of the AUP.
The annual meeting is a curated conference focusing on the emerging topics of interest for university presses, with round tables, presentations and hands on workshops covering a diverse range of topics, from managing journals to XML workflows, marketing with big data to licensing scholarly publications.
Virtusales Senior User Forum 2018

This year's Senior User Forum will take place at Penguin Random House's Vauxhall Bridge Road offices, in London.
Our Senior User Forums provide an opportunity for Virtusales customers to come together and discuss the future of publishing, as well as their experiences using Biblio3 and BiblioLIVE. We'll be demonstrating some exciting new developments and features implemented during the past year, and take a closer look at some lesser-known tools, best practice tips and user case stories, which we hope will be beneficial to all attending.

Virtusales will be attending the 2018 annual Publishers' Forum in Berlin. The forum brings together publishers and service providers from across the publishing and media industry to discuss new business models, trends in technology and the challenges and solutions arising from digitisation.
BISG Annual Meeting

The BISG Annual Meeting takes place in New York City on Friday. BISG will present their findings on The State of the Supply Chain and discuss the latest updates in publishing, distribution and retailing across the industry.
The event is a great opportunity for the industry to meet and discuss the current state of publishing, and hear about BISG's plans for the year ahead.
Rodney Elder, Tricia McCraney and Jim Killeen will be attending the event, and will be happy to speak to publishers throughout the day.

Biblio University User Group Meeting

The inaugural Biblio University User Group meeting takes place on the 8th - 10th May, hosted by Harvard University Press in Beverly Massachusetts.
Virtusales are delighted to be supporting Dan Wackrow at Harvard University Press and Dennis Langlois at Princeton University Press who have founded this initiative and conference.
The two-day event will create a supportive community for fellow university press Biblio customers. Highlights for the first program include; case studies from Harvard, Princeton and Columbia, presentations by Virtusales on the Biblio product roadmap and product best practice and a presentation about connecting solutions from Ingram Content Group.

Booknet Canada Tech Forum 2018

Booknet Canada's annual Tech Forum conference focuses on the latest digital developments in the publishing industry, and is the largest event of its kind in the Canadian publishing industry.
Tricia McCraney, projects consultant at Virtusales, will be speaking at the conference about managing best practice in ONIX. Meeting the Changing Needs of Academic Publishing

As part of the London Book Fair Insights Seminar Programme, Virtusales' Director of Academic Mark Collins, will present his insights from working with some of the world’s largest publishers, and what they are doing to meet the changing needs of academic publishing. The session will focus on how publishers are managing an increasing and diversifying publishing output, exploring new payment models and turning towards content-driven strategies.
The presentation will review how the shift away from linear, traditional publishing workflows is creating fresh challenges in managing the volume of metadata required for multiple channels. Using real-life use cases, Mark will consider the approaches that publishers are taking to improve the quality of their metadata, increase online discoverability and maximise sales. Finally, he will also look at the key role publishing systems have to play in supporting publishers' challenges today and in the future.

BISG: Managing Rights Across the Supply Chain

Virtusales attended this half day program in New York, which focused on the benefits gained by improving the way we manage rights across the supply chain.
Tricia McCraney from Virtusales moderated the panel talk 'Rights Management Success Stories'. The panel discussed how rights management software has enabled publishers to transform their back office departments into revenue generating profit centres, and included Jeffery Corrick, director of permissions at Penguin Random House, Paulette Goldweber, manager of copyright and permissions at John Wiley, and Becky Hemperly, Vice President of Contracts, Rights and Royalties at Candlewick Press.
Becky spoke about Candlewick's early adoption of Virtusales' BiblioRoyalties Contracts, Rights and Royalties software and explains how Biblio3 has allowed for better management of acquired rights and strengthened her negotiation position with authors, illustrators and agents.
